Blue Velvet

Located in West Hollywood and completed in 2010, Blue Velvet is a condominium compound comprised of four floors and 33 modern two-bedroom residences ranging in size from 1,500-2,000 square feet. Triangulated by Melrose Avenue, Santa Monica and La Cienega Boulevards, our work on this project represented an important initial case-study for the restructuring of architectural guidelines for the continually developing Melrose district of West Hollywood.

Noted for its striking namesake exterior and geometrically complex modular structure, we designed each unit with open and spacious floor plans, two-car tandem parking and individually carved out private balconies and terraces. Outdoor space was meticulously organized and detailed, and the resulting public and private greenery is both prevalent and amply proportioned. Also included is a well-appointed roof deck open to all residents.

Much of Blue Velvet’s build ultimately influenced the revised Melrose district structural guidelines. The project’s stepped setbacks, staggered lanais, and comprehensive outdoor planning were all reflected in the new iteration, and the breadth of our design work has served as a key reference point for the area’s re-established planning standards.
